Daystar G10 and G11 students are immersed in the professional world through curated internship opportunities to develop their social innovation competencies. Our Inno-Sprint internship program provides students with a 1-week on-site sprint to solve a real company problem related to social innovation. The student teams embark on a process of deep research, design thinking, and prototyping to come up with their recommended solution which they present to company leaders. It is an exciting process of applying their social innovation knowledge and skills to help a company. For example, students are working with Patagonia to develop a campaign to help youth understand the need for sustainable fashion.
Our Inno-Ready internship program is curated for individual students by providing an immersive work experience in a field/industry of interest. During this multi-week internship students take on a role within the company/project and learn both technical skills and soft skills. Guided by a mentor, they will reflect on the learning experience and give a final presentation to share their insights and inspire other students to use their courage to complete an Inno-Ready summer internship. Students have been placed with innovative companies such as Robarts Spaces (design firm), McDonalds, Metal Hands Art Gallery, and media firms.
