STEAM is a transdisciplinary approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. Daystar Academy’s Innovation Lab is a makerspace hub for invention through STEAM.
The Daystar Academy STEAM program enhances creativity, innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit in students and the curriculum. Students demonstrate problem solving, collaboration, communication, creative and analytical skills through project-based learning and inquiry, which promote a deeper understanding of STEAM disciplines. Design thinking, the engineering design process and computational thinking are used to encourage innovation and creativity. As scientists, engineers, innovators, and designers, our students learn how to ask critical questions, research and develop possible solutions through hands on activities. They build prototypes, test and evaluate their designs, and then redesign as needed.
STEAM is practical in nature and students are actively engaged in the learning process. Integrated lessons are structured to encourage students to solve real-world problems, empowering them to create, imagine and innovate. Our program promotes individual ownership and responsibility as students face time-management and problem-solving challenges during their project development. They become more collaborative team members, effective communicators, and flexible and creative thinkers. Meaningful use of technological tools serve students well in whichever education path they choose in their future.
