Projects for Change
Through the Daystar Academy Projects for Change, students experience the responsibility of completing a significant piece of work over an extended period of time. These challenging and meaningful projects require students to reflect on their learning and the outcomes of their work, preparing them for the expectations of university and adulthood.
Projects for Change incrementally builds students' acumen to successfully complete the MYP Personal Project (Middle Years Project) from grades 6–10. Students are encouraged to pick topics that are personally meaningful, and that address local and global issues. Through it all, they're asked to apply the spirit of Daystar to their work–'the courage to change and inspire'.
These culminating projects are registered for external moderation, ensuring they meet globally accepted standards of quality.
Projects for Change /MYP Projects enable students to:
● Participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry
● Use their creativity to develop personal insight into global issues
● Demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and discipline required to complete an extended project
● Communicate complex ideas effectively
● Demonstrate responsible actions in response to what they’ve learned
● Enjoy the pride of a significant personal achievement
Students think introspectively to select a topic they will commit to, audit their existing body of knowledge, and identify new areas of inquiry to develop their understanding.
They then draft a proposal for the project, including evaluative criteria, expected time and materials requirements, as well as recording and reporting protocols. They then work regularly with their advisor to ensure they're meeting their accountability goals and seeking support where necessary. Along the way, they interview and correspond with external professionals drawn from our parent community, neighborhood, and the wider business and leadership community in Beijing.
