Unity Day

Unity Day
* Unity Day attracted around 4,000 guests.
* Over 100 people, including parent volunteers and Ivy and Daystar staff, offered their support.
* Attendees enjoyed 37 performances during the 3-hour Daystar’s Got Talent.
* The 99 charity stalls and Week for Change event, which just concluded, raised a total of 114970.67yuan.
Together
The torch relay was the highlight of the opening ceremony and was used to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Daystar’s founding.
Accompanied by parent volunteers, 20 students passed the torch, symbolizing the passing on of Daystar’s core values and traditions over the past 20 years.
Led by Jack Hsu, Chairman of Ivy Education Group, members from Ivy schools marched around the venue—a Unity Day tradition that represents the unity of Ivy communities as they move forward in the same direction.
Jack Hsu, CEO of Ivy Education Group, Executive Board Member of Daystar Academy, welcomed everyone to Unity Day.
Daystar’s Got Talent has long been a highlight of Unity Day. This year, we enjoyed three hours filled with 37 excellent shows. The talented performers came from the Daystar Beigao, Sanlitun, Quanfa, Ivy Sanlitun, Sanyuanqiao, Orchid Garden, and Central Park campuses in Beijing and Eco-city Campus in distant Tianjin.
The children presented a variety of colorful performances including instrumental music performances, dance, singing, drama, poetry reading, Social Innovation Program speeches, and scientific experiments!
You might be wondering: Why were scientific experiments and Social Innovation Program speeches in the show? The answer is that these activities align with the Unity Day theme of Diversity and Unity and represent the educational philosophy advocated by Ivy and Daystar. The freedom to express oneself is precious. We encourage students to bravely explore and express their passions and dreams while providing them with opportunities and stages to make this expression possible.
Leo Gu, a Grade 4 student from Daystar Beigao Campus, explains his scientific experiment to the attendees. Enya Zhang, a Grade 3 student from Daystar Sanlitun Campus, introduced why she decided to research the reason for stray animals and how she and her friends built a stray animal shelter.
We also invited the Daystar Parents Choir, Daystar Parents Dance Club, and the alternative rock band Fluflafen to make the show even more exciting.
Persistence
Unity Day also demonstrated the persistence and sincerity of the communities in making a positive difference in the world around them.
At the event, we saw students and parents engage in activities to support Daystar’s traditional charity programs.
Our Learning House, a charity institution that helps orphans and children with disabilities, has been a Daystar partner for many years. This year, their booth was next to the main stage. Daystar parents and students helped them manage the booth and hold charity sales. The teachers from Our Learning House told us that they plan to devote more resources and time to projects in Gansu and other provinces to help the left-behind children there receive a better education and mental health support.
Zhu Chenhao has also been a beneficiary of Daystar community service over the years. In 2019, Daystar raised funds to help cover the cost of his heart transplant and continued to raise funds to pay for his medication after the surgery. During Unity Day, Grade 11 students sold organic strawberries and parents of students in the 1C Class sold handicrafts they had made as well as those made by Zhu Chenhao.
The 2022-2023 Week for Change was held from May 8 to May 12. Students at the Daystar Beigao and Sanlitun campuses raised funds for their chosen charity projects and organizations:
Students at Sanlitun Campus went to the nearest community, Sanlitun, to introduce the work being done by MCF and raise funds for MCF schools. Secondary school students at Beigao Campus raised funds during the sports carnival sponsored by Rotary Club of Beijing, while elementary school students participated in a charity race.
All of these philanthropic endeavors culminated on Unity Day. The entire week of student effort, combined with the booths and stalls set up on Unity Day, raised a considerable amount of support for the following organizations:
United Foundation for China’s Health:44910.5 RMB
Migrant Children’s Foundation:22810 RMB
Dandelion School:11171.42 RMB
Power Baseball Angels:11764.23 RMB
Others: 24314.52

Unity Day
Making a positive difference in the world around us is certainly not an easy task, but it is extremely meaningful. We at Ivy and Daystar endeavor to cultivate open-minded and capable world citizens. We believe this goal is being achieved, not only because we are on the right track, but also because we are backed by a community that is united with us.
We would like to once again thank everyone for supporting Unity Day: Thank you to the parents, students, teachers, Ivy and Daystar staff, and all of the guests who attended. We look forward to seeing you on Unity Day next year!
